Description

This interprofessional curriculum is guided by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies, as well as discipline-specific competencies, and the Hartford Foundation’s “4Ms” Framework for age-friendly health systems. The program aims to improve care for complex older adults by enhancing the capacity of clinicians and educators to affect patients, learners, and team members.

Program Benefits
The CIRCAA program includes monthly seminars, three in-person overnight retreats, independent study, and a Capstone Project. Monthly seminars consist of active learning and case-based discussions led by an interprofessional team of educators. This learning is designed to:

  • Augment your ability to meet the needs of a complex, aging population
  • Learn core elements of clinical geriatrics
  • Gain the skills needed to foster team-based, gero-friendly initiatives in your workplace
  • Enhance your teaching, practice or research portfolio
  • Catalyze change within your clinical practice or education setting to better serve older adults
  • Strengthen your clinical practice and/or teaching efficacy
  • Develop research and evaluation skills
  • Expand your interprofessional network
  • Become an age-friendly resource for others on your campus or in your practice
  • Continuing Education credits will be offered

Program Requirements

  • Engaged attendance of at least 70% of the monthly sessions and retreats
  • Complete reading and assignments each month in preparation for meeting activities and discussion
  • Complete and present a Capstone Project

The program is planned and taught by a team of faculty from the Virginia Geriatric Education Center.

The registration fee includes retreat costs (hotel rooms, meals, etc.) and continuing education credits.
