Bailey, CaitlynCaitlyn serves as affiliate faculty in the Department of Patient Counseling, College of Health Professions and a Clinical Pastoral Education Manager at VCU Health. Caitlyn is an Association of Clinical Pastoral Education Certified Educator and is Board Certified as a Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary and Master of Science degrees in Patient Counseling and Supervisory Education from VCU. She completed her chaplain residency, served as the Chief Chaplain Resident and completed supervisory education at VCU/VCU Health. Caitlyn is an ordained minister and endorsed in the United Methodist Church.

Caitlyn serves on the Family Communication Coordination (FCC) Team of chaplains at VCU Health and has research interests in organ donation chaplaincy, Advance Care Planning, chaplain resiliency and the use of art in clinical pastoral education. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, entertaining and tablescaping.

Barnes, MarilynThe Rev. Marilyn J. D. Barnes serves as Chair of the Department of Patient Counseling, College of Health Professions and as the Director of Pastoral Care at VCU Medical Center.

As part of the John Templeton Foundation initiative to promote research literacy in the field of chaplaincy, Rev. Barnes is a Transforming Chaplaincy Research Fellow Cohort 1 graduate. Her research interests include, religious and spiritual coping as protective factors for African-American women against the chronic stress associated with racial discrimination, the impact of spiritual care interventions in support of staff, and sustainability with the integration of Spiritual Care Encounter Simulation in Clinical Pastoral Education and chaplain continuing education

She has presented at numerous conferences. Her publications include the seminal chaplaincy research, “What do I do? Developing a taxonomy of chaplaincy activities and interventions for spiritual care in intensive care unit palliative care,” (BMC Palliative Care, 2015) which developed a normative language for chaplains and is currently being incorporated into chaplaincy practice in a variety of settings in the US and around the world, “Symbols of Comfort for a Journey of Grief,” (Illness Crisis and Loss, 2014) an article focused on the use of ritual during the initial grieving process, and “Spiritual Care Encounter – Journeying with a Grief Stricken Family” (Simulation in Health Journal of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, 2017).

She is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and a Board Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains. She is a graduate of two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); Texas Southern University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Southern University where she received a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Garett Evangelical Theological Seminary and a Master of Public Health Degree with a concentration in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Bradley, CalvinCalvin Bradley Jr. serves as an Assistant Professor in Patient Counseling as well as Pediatric Chaplain and Service Line Liaison for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHOR) at VCU Health.

He completed his Clinical Pastoral Education Residency training at ECU Health (formerly Vidant Health) in Greenville, NC in 2017 and immediately transitioned into the role of Pediatric Chaplain for the Maynard Children’s Hospital and Women’s Services at ECU Health.

Calvin earned his Master of Divinity with a concentration in Chaplaincy and Counseling from Campbell University Divinity School and an MS in Global and International Education with a concentration in Peace Studies from Drexel University. He completed his undergraduate studies at East Carolina University, earning a BS in Rehabilitation Studies, BA in Religious Studies with a minor in African & African American Studies, and a Graduate Certificate in Global Understanding.

He is a Board-Certified (BCC) Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), a Healthcare Ethics Certified Consultant (HEC-C) with the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), and a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) with the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). He currently serves as an Advisory Council Member for the Pediatric Chaplains Network (PCN), where is also a member of the Research Committee and co-leads an early-career mentoring project for new pediatric chaplains. He also serves as the Students & New Professionals Representative for the Religion, Spirituality, and Family Section of NCFR.

Calvin is a Hasting’s Center Sadler Scholar, a significant honor and recognition of early-career BIPOC voices in the field of bioethics and health equity. In 2018, he was awarded the Drexel University’s ‘40 Under 40’ alumni award for outstanding achievements and service.

Some of his research interests include pediatric health disparities and DEI initiatives, adolescent spiritual care assessment and interventions, non-verbal communication and conflict in pediatric care settings.

Finnegan-Hosey, LeighRev. Leigh Finnegan-Hosey is a graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary and ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Leigh currently serves as an instructor in the Department of Patient Counseling, College of Health Professions, and as the Pediatric and Women’s Health Chaplain for VCU Health. Prior to joining VCU, she served in the spiritual care departments of Georgetown University, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and ECU Health. Originally from South Florida, Leigh loves the forests and mountains of Virginia but still considers the beach home. She is the proud mother of one human baby (Laila) and one fur baby (Penny lane), and her hobbies include hiking, traveling, and swing dancing with her husband David.
Hamilton, StephanieStephanie Hamilton serves as Faculty Chaplain Liaison for Surgery/Trauma/Neuro, and as FCC Team Leader. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, she completed high school in Grand Cayman; her Bachelor of Arts at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, in 1981; and her Masters of Divinity at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in 1990. She completed her Chaplain Residency at UNC Chapel Hill’s Trauma Center in 1991 and was ordained in 1992. She worked as a Chaplain at hospitals in Monroe and Charlotte North Carolina, before moving to Richmond. She began at VCU in the fall of 2000 as one of the Clinical Faculty, as Adult Bereavement Coordinator and Coordinator for the Annual Good Grief Conference.

She is endorsed with the Alliance of Baptists and became Board Certified as a Chaplain with the Association for Professional Chaplains in 2005. Over the years at VCU she also served as the FCC Team Leader and as the Trauma, E.D., Neuro, Surgery Faculty Liaison with CPE Chaplain students, and with staff in those areas. She moved to Bon Secours in February 2012, where she served as the Lead Chaplain with St. Francis Medical Center and as a member of the Critical Incident Team with Bon Secours. She recently returned to VCU, as FCC Team Leader and Clinical Liaison with the Surgery Trauma Service Line.

She has published in the area of staff support after a national crisis, and provided presentations on crisis, grief, communication, charting, and the role of the FCC Team at VCU. She and her husband Mike have two children, Jonathan and Carrie. Stephanie enjoys dancing, camping and digging in the yard. She aspires to be a Camp Host when she retires.

Recently Stephanie was featured on Interfaith Voices, the nation’s leading religion news magazine on public radio in a segment called “Sacred Moments in a Virginia Hospital,” which was part of an hour-long broadcast: Chaplains Part III: Deep Breaths in the Trauma Room. Lex Tartaglia and Josh Andrzejewski were also included in the broadcast.
